Still Sweeps Me Off My Feet

This August Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I will have been married for 29 years. It feels impossible that 29 years have flown by but I suppose the calendar doesn't lie and time does actually pass that quickly. For 29 years Mr. Yesteryear Acres has lovingly prepared my morning coffee for me just the way I like it.  This morning, Mr. Yesteryear Acres once again reached hero status.  He got me my half-and-half.  All I can say is.....all is right with the world.
I think I should give Mr. Yesteryear Acres a huge hug to thank him.......
Evidently the past 4 days of having nothing but skim milk in my coffee, did not lighten his load.
Just kidding....he still has it!
Mr. Yesteryear Acres - you still sweep me off my feet
My hero

Walking Etiquette

I was recently asked if I would do a blog post on proper dog walking etiquette so here are my thoughts on taking your beloved furry best friend on a walk. First and foremost, be in control of your four-legged friend.  I often see doggies taking their humans for a walk.  This should never be the case.  Humans should be the ones taking their doggies for a walk. Your doggie should be paying attention to you, walking by your side and listening and watching for your cues. I also believe that even if you have the very best behaved doggie in all the world, your doggie should still be on a leash when you are out in public spaces.  Just because you might know (and believe) you have complete control over your off-leash doggie, that does not mean that same belief transfers to other people.  It isn't right to make other people feel fearful or worried when they walk by. They are entitled to the same sense of security that you feel. Good manners are essential for both humans and doggies alike! We are so lucky here at Yesteryear Acres.  We have acres upon acres of land to take our doggies on walks.
Our doggies LOVE going for off-leash walks with us.
We always have the best time with them.
We practice recall, retrieval, training, come and stay commands.
They are very good listeners!
Even if our doggies are very good at "STAY" - they still need a leash whenever we go walking elsewhere.
I prefer using a 2 foot traffic lead.  I like to have my doggies in a nice tight heel when I walk.
My son is comfortable with all lengths of leashes.  He always has multiple best furry friends accompany him on walks.
No matter which leash you prefer, keep your doggies in control and with you at all times.

They will thank you for keeping them safe.

Day 3.....still no 1/2 & 1/2

Sunday morning I awoke to the most horrific sight......absolutely no half-and-half in the refrigerator.  None. We were completely out.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres had no recourse but to put skim milk in my coffee. ACK! I barely survived Sunday.  Monday morning - still the same.  I was too busy to go to the store on Sunday and that left me with the same empty space in my refrigerator.  An empty screaming space that yelled, "FILL ME WITH HALF-AND-HALF!" All day Monday again - I was too busy to get to the store.  It was Puppy Picture Monday and website update day and I wasn't even done working until after 8pm.  I do realize that stores are open after 8pm but I have a particular loathing of running errands which incrementally multiplies with each passing hour of the day. My abhorrence over my missing half-and-half was obviously less than my hatred of running to the store last night.  This leads me to this morning where many tears were shed over my cup of morning coffee with skim milk. There was no enjoyment.  Today for sure I was going to GO to the STORE and get my half-and half!!!!!!!  That is when Mr. Yesteryear Acres hooked up the trailer to the SUV, loaded up the lawn mower and said he was going to his dad's house to go mow. ARGH!  I mean it is really really really nice of Mr. Yesteryear Acres to go take care of his dad's property BUT Mr. Yesteryear Acres cannot stop at the store with the big trailer full of lawn equipment.  That leaves me home.  Alone.  With no car.  And.........tomorrow morning will be day four.  Still no half-and-half.  I hope I survive.

Our June Doodle Puppies are just beginning to open their eyes.  A few puppies have tried getting up on all four legs but they are still very wobbly at this age and plop right back down on their tummies.  Crawling over to mommy still wins!

Lunch Date....Dinner Date

My younger daughter came over today to have lunch with Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I.  We had a delicious lunch complete with fresh picked lettuce and a homemade strawberry vinaigrette salad dressing. After lunch my daughter and I started talking and before we knew it.......it was dinner time!  I don't know how the day flew by so quickly but that is how it is when you are lucky enough to spend the day with someone you love.  Of course my daughter couldn't leave right at dinner time so we all had dinner together too.  It was a perfect day!

Our after dinner walk for two became........

a walk for eight!!!!! We had 6 deer visit with us.

Our mommy deer with her twin babies and the mommy deer who gave birth on the backyard were having a play date. We watched the three fawns zip around the field and hop and leap all over the place.  The mommies were keeping a close watch on their babies but they still kept coming closer to us.

My daughter and I stayed perfectly still for a good 10 minutes while the deer danced all around us.  It was an awesome walk!
Thanks for the visit DEER DAUGHTER!
(See what I did there?)
We had a great time with you!

Firefly Dance

Last night Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I were treated to a beautiful firefly show.  We looked out our back door and the woods were alive with twinkling lights.  We immediately put our boots back on and took a walk through the woods.  Everywhere we looked hundreds of fireflies were flickering their lights up in the trees and out in the field. Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I tried to take a video of the light show but it wouldn't show up on our cameras. Once in a while a firefly would fly down to the ground and in the darkness, it looked just like a falling star.   It was mesmerizing.  It was better than the best Christmas lights show and better than the most beautiful wedding reception decoration.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I stood hand-in-hand in the darkness and admired nature's fireworks display. As we walked back to the house, Mr. Yesteryear Acres asked, "wasn't that magical?" With my hand held tightly in his, my answer was a heartfelt, "yes, yes it really was".  Thank you fireflies.

Tonight Bri declared that she would be making our dinner this evening.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I were both excited to see what she would be serving.  Well, Bri really outdid herself.  We had a dinner that was so delicious, I am secretly glad that it was just the 3 of us for dinner because now we have leftovers for lunch tomorrow!!!!

The Grass Says Thank You

Today I watered the lawn, watered the flowers, watered the seedlings, watered the hay field, watered the garden, and watered the hanging baskets.  I also added at least a good 1/2 foot of water to our pond level. I basically woke up a hero.  I mean - look at all I have accomplished!  All of Yesteryear Acres has been watered.  I assumed I would get loads of thanks and praise and maybe even a trophy for all my efforts.  That is when Mr. Yesteryear Acres claimed that HE watered the lawn, flowers, seedlings, hay field and garden.  What???  This certainly cannot be right.  Despite the fact that both of us took credit for all the hard work, neither one of us ACTUALLY did the watering.  We had FIVE inches of rain last night!!!!!!  FIVE!!!!  Most of it fell in a 3 hour time period.  Normally that would wreak havoc and cause so much destruction but not this time.  We were so dry here that the earth just drank in all that fresh rainwater like a sponge.  The grass looks greener.  The hay field looks greener.  The garden plants look taller.  The flowers look happier. The creek is running again and the pond level is much better.  Everything is watered and the thirst has been quenched. We are so grateful for the much needed rain! The garden and flowers and hay field and seedlings and the now green grass all say THANK YOU!

The End of the Rainbow

Last week while the sun was brightly shining, raindrops started falling from the sky like sparkling diamonds.  They lit up the entire backyard. It was an awesome sight.  It was the most dazzling sparkling rain shower I ever saw.  Suddenly, right out back, a beautiful rainbow appeared.
It was right there in our very own backyard!  I have never been so close to a rainbow before.
We decided to follow the rainbow
and what do you know,
we found the end of the rainbow.
And even more than that......
the pot of gold at the end is
Yesteryear Acres

We knew it all along
