Be Good and Do Good

In raising our children, Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I worked hard to instill the belief that being a good person isn't enough. It is important to be good but more importantly it is important to do good.  Spread cheer, share a smile, lend a hand, be there for those in need.  If you have an extra place at your table and food to spare, invite a hungry friend.  No matter how dire a situation might seem, look for the helpers.  They are there. Always be a helper.  Today I received this email about our son......

Hi Austin's mom and dad:-) Not sure if you got our message on your blog, so thought we would rewrite it here. We live in rural Illinois, a few miles from your son. He found us though our fresh farm eggs. He stopped and bought a couple of dozen and we enjoyed his company and his exceptional manners. You have raised a fine young man who will go far in life. He loves our dog, Buddy, who is a rescue dog, part Australian Shepard and ?? He also loves our eggs and all our farm animals. He has helped with chores around the farm, which we greatly appreciate. With us being older, things are not as easy as they used to be for us. He may tell you about us, but if he does not, we just wanted you to know how much we think of him and what a great job you folks have done raising him. You folks take care and we hope to meet you some day too:-) God Bless you and your family and the adorable puppies:-)

Dear son - as always, you make us proud.
Thanks for being a helper.
