What to Do with a Rainy Morning

This morning it was quite dreary and rainy outside. Looking at the forecast it looked like rain was in our future until late this afternoon. So the question became, what to do on this rainy grey day? Luckily Mr. Yesteryear Acres came to the rescue! He gave me the task of making a dump cake! We have lots of fresh fruit from the farmers market in danger of going bad, so basically mother nature rained this morning so that I could give the fresh fruit goodness a new purpose. Dump Cake!! I mean who doesn't love dump cake!?! So I set to work right away. I boiled some water and blanched the peaches. Then I peeled them and diced the peaches into perfect bite-size morsels. Next I washed all the blueberries and mixed them with the peaches, I needed to make sure the ratios were just so!
Perfect!
Next I washed and removed the cherry pits, and tossed them into the mixture
I don't know about you, but this screams summertime happiness to me!
Then I added some ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a little brown sugar and placed the fruit into a baking dish
I then topped my summer fruits with a butter yellow cake mix and some more brown sugar
Finally for a little extra flair I dotted the pan with butter, because you can't go wrong by adding butter!
350* and 45 minutes later....
Voila!
Everyone here at Yesteryear Acres is already ready for dessert!!!
Hurry Up Dinner, and a BIG Thank You to Mother Nature!

Always,

Amelia

Snuggly Sunday

Sometimes you just need a day to relax and prepare yourself for all the other days. Today I was in need of one of those days. I needed a snuggly Sunday. It seemed as if my animals also agreed as I was greeted this morning with this sight..
As if they were begging me to come back to bed.... I mean how could I say no?
Once we were finally "up" for the day, we settled on couch cuddles
followed by lovie cuddles
Movie cuddles
And all the cuddles in between!

Sometimes what you need is a snuggly Sunday

I Spy - Garden Edition

One of the things we love most about summer is the garden that Mr. Yesteryear Acres lovingly cultivates. We are definitely a food family and what is better than fresh ingredients!?! Am I right!?! Today's trip back to the garden became a wonderful game of I Spy! I am proud to report that fresh goodness is on the horizon!
Our green beans have leaves again! Stay away deer doodles! This batch is for us!
One purple blossom ready to become an eggplant
And I spy future eggplant parmesan!
Our tomato plants are really getting tall
I spy some baby green tomatoes!
I spy Mr. Yesteryear Acres' favorite... Okra plants!
And some happy peppers!
I spy more over here too!
Can't wait to harvest the beets! They make excellent accompaniments to fresh salads
And so do cucumbers!
I couldn't miss spying this gorgeously huge cabbage
Hello zucchini plants!
I spy some little squash under all those leaves
And where there are zucchini there must be...
Onions!!!
and we can't forget a summer essential!
Sweet corn!!
Officially reporting that the sweet corn is Taller than my Thigh at the end of July! (similar to the well known phrase, Knee high by Fourth of July, but hey you have to improvise when the planting of the garden got a late start. Thanks Mother Nature)

Keep growing garden!!!
I don't know about you, but now I am hungry!!!
Bring on the garden goodness!

Always,

Amelia

The Adventures of Jethro

Jethro is finally here!!! I have been waiting for our training and boarding time together since Peaches had her puppies back in April!  My goodness is Jethro so big and fluffy now. He is one smart double doodle! While his furever family is away on vacation we will work on continuing Jethro's basic puppy commands, learning how to ring bells to go potty, crate training, leash training, fetch, as well as lots and lots and lots of cuddle time! These next few weeks are going to be so much fun! Today Jethro and I went on a nice long walk.
To the pond of course!
What are you doing Hickory buddy?
WOAH! You can fetch your otter toy way out there!?!?
But it is so far
How are you doing that with your legs!?
I think I like wading up to my elbows better...
Maybe I will learn how to swim when I grow up!
Mr. Yesteryear Acres says it's time to check the garden! Let's go!
Ah I see them! I see the zucchini blossoms!

What a fun day!

I can't wait for our adventures to continue!

Always,

Amelia
