Today William went to Children's Hospital for his very first G Tube change. A G Tube is a feeding tube that is surgically inserted into the stomach so that liquids, nutrition and medications can be delivered via the tube directly into his stomach. William had G Tube surgery in January as his growth charts became more and more alarming. His BMI was 1% and he was far in the negative range for growth. William has always struggled with eating and swallowing and it was clear he needed more support. His blood work showed alarming deficiencies across all areas and he was dangerously low in several areas. He was fast tracked for the surgery route and today was his first day back to the hospital since his G Tube was placed. WOW WOW WOW! Everyone was so impressed with how much progress William has made since last month! Everyone couldn't believe how much color William had in his face and how thick his hair had grown. He gained enough weight to be on the growth charts again! It was just a fantastic visit and proved that the feeding tube was definitely the right medical treatment for William!
