William Update

Our sweet William has had a busy few months with various medical visits. We have been to Neurology, Genetics, Pediatric, Help Me Grow, Psychology, Speech, Occupational and Eating doctor visits and therapy appointments. We have a few official diagnoses and are still waiting on further confirmation of a suspected neuromuscular disorder. What we do know is that William has Autism.  He has been classified as Level 2 / Borderline Level 3. William needs constant very close supervision.  He has trouble with walking and running and also extreme difficulty in eating and swallowing. He is likely to remain non-verbal as he also has Childhood Apraxia along with Autism. Thankfully, his wonderful mom Abigail has been keenly in tune to William's daily struggles and has been paving the way for a much smoother road for William.  She has already started William on an AAC Tablet which has provided a way for William to communicate with us.  I can't tell you how much I love it when William presses the "Grandma" button and looks right at me and smiles. I would guess he knows almost 100 words on his AAC Tablet already! William is so well loved and everyone in our family has pulled together to provide William with the support and enrichment he needs and it is such a beautiful thing to watch William slowly understand his environment. Thank you to everyone who emailed, posted, called, and texted with ideas for how best to support William.  Many of those suggestions led to an early diagnosis for William and he is receiving much needed treatment and therapies to help him. We are so grateful for all the support!!!!!
William...
A little boy who loves
Cars
and Bumble Bees
and wagon rides
and ladybugs
But most of all
Loves his mom
Who never gives up hope
and always finds 4-Leaf Clovers
to bring endless smiles and luck to each and every day.
