Juneau's little Double Doodle puppies are soooooo adorable!  They are the cutest little butterballs.  This week they start solid food and will really start to grow and fill out.  By this time next week, the puppies will be learning how to go potty outside and will be licking their bowls clean!

Better Late

Here at Yesteryear Acres, it is hard for us to celebrate big life moments and holidays exactly on the day they are supposed to be celebrated.  Valentine's Day might not happen in February.  Holidays might not be celebrated with all of us together as someone always needs to be here to take care of our Doodle doggies and puppies.  Birthdays are often celebrated later.  Sometimes much later. It is just the way things are at Yesteryear Acres.  The Doodle Doggies and Doodle Puppies and horses and kittens and our garden plus all the rest of our responsibilities, always come first.  So today, on August 9th, we celebrated Mr. Yesteryear Acres and my son's birthday at Mr. Yesteryear Acres parents' house. We made sure to bring huge appetites to the birthday dinner because no matter what, Mr. Yesteryear Acres mom makes sure we get our bellies full!  Tonight we had steak and scalloped corn and her very famous Strawberry Salad for dinner and it was SO good!  For dessert - Mr. Yesteryear Acres and my son's favorite cake  - homemade oatmeal cake.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres mom made two cakes so it looks like they will have cake for breakfast in the morning!
I am pretty sure these two would eat this cake every day if they could!!!!
And as always

Laughter, Good Times, Delicious Food and Lots of Love are served with every meal! Happy Birthday Dinner!

Little Visitor

For the past week or so, when we go back to feed the fish in the pond, there is a little visitor waiting for us.
This little fawn loves to hang around our campfire site and the pond.
The other night we were visited by the fawn while we were roasting marshmallows.  I think it loves us!

The fawn spends most of the time playing right by the pond.

I am pretty sure the fawn and our fish are best friends.

It isn't even bothered by our doodle doggies.

"Oh! Hi Grits!  Nice to see you!"

"Wanna play?"

"It is a great day for a swim!"
Looks like "Deer Doodle" is an official member of the Yesteryear Acres family!

Reality Check

So far I have been happily living in denial.  There is absolutely no way that in a mere 2 weeks from now, my son will be moving away to college.  In fact when I looked at the calendar at this exact moment and counted the remaining days that my son has left, I gasped in horror realizing it was in TWO WEEKS!  How can this be?  How did summer fly by so quickly?  I am faced with two life events the weekend after next. Life Event Number One - my last child moves out and our home will be an empty nest.  And Life Event Number Two - the day after my son moves to college, it is my BIG 1/2 Century Birthday. Yes, I will be turning 50 years old the morning after I drop my son off at college. I feel this must be some cruel twist of fate! Just to make certain that my suffering is complete, tonight, after dinner......we went back to school shopping. College Dorm Room things, notebooks,  Twin XL bedding, pencils and pens. All the essentials.  Now my living room is full of a giant pile of reminders.   Two weeks and counting.  Sigh.

Bunny Doodle

Today Austin and I had to make a quick run to the farm store. No problem, right? Wrong. We had just gotten everything on our list when I saw.....
BUNNIES for sale!!!
I have wanted a bunny for so long, I couldn't believe my eyes.

They were sooooo cute. I went up to them and this one came right up to me!!

I was so sad to walk away from them. They were the cutest bunnies ever.
I'm thinking... Nursing School Graduation present??

Peachy Keen

Now that our hay is in, what could be next on our list?  Relaxing?  Sitting by the pond?  Of course not!  Time for peaches!!!! Hey Bri!  Wanna go pick a couple of bushels of peaches with me?
"Oh Boy! The Farm fun never ends!"
The big juicy peaches were just begging to go in our baskets

Mmmmmmm.  So delicious!

"One for the basket.....one for me!"

Bri had never gone peach picking before and she loved it. What is better than a fresh picked summer peach? We need to pick several bushels to can for the winter. But first......looks like Peach Crisp for dessert tonight!

Hay! Good Job!

Today we were finally able to finish baling all the hay.  It felt good to cross that one off the list!  Now we don't have to think about baling hay again until late summer when the 2nd cutting will be ready. On my way back to the field, I was able to take a picture of one of the twin baby deer that like to visit our pond.
If you look closely, the deer is right by the rowboat.

I can see why the deer like it here!

Just a few more to go!

Looking good!

Mr. Yesteryear Acres - doing what he loves.
Life here at Yesteryear Acres couldn't be better.
Hay! Good Job!!!!

Sunday Sunrise

This morning after Austin and I were done with the morning farm chores we watched the beautiful sunrise. Our sunrise was complete with a nice cup of hot coffee out by the pond.
This was when it was just starting to come up.

We had a great view. Even the fish in the pond came up to see us!

It was such a gorgeous sight overlooking the hay field.

Thank you Mother Nature for the simple things in life that create so much beauty and happiness.

Happy August 1st!

This morning I was told that today, August 1st, is National Girlfriend Day. Of course, I was sure to let Austin know. I told him today was National Girlfriend Day and he laughed telling me to get to work. I went on to tell him this was no joke and that it was a real holiday. So he did what anyone else would do... He googled it. And sure enough, today REALLY is National Girlfriend Day. I was already planning an evening together when he clicked on a website that explained the national holiday. It turns out, today is for "girl-friends" to get together, enjoy each others company, and celebrate the bond of friendship. It's not actually "girlfriend" day. Sigh. On the bright side, today is looking promising to get our hay baled! It's all raked and ready to go. So.. I will spend the rest of this national holiday like anyone else would.. Baling hay!

Happy August 1st!!
