Y Acres Studio Winter Solstice

On December 16th, Mr. Yesteryear Acres picked out fabrics that he wanted for a Winter/Christmas quilt. He was happy to receive his quilt whenever I had the time, but I put in a few late nights to make sure he got his quilt in time for Christmas.
Mr. Yesteryear Acres loves half-square triangle quilts!
Now which design to make???
There are so many ways to design a quilt
I tried various options
but they just didn't say Winter Solstice.
Abigail's Artistry took over and.....
Her vision of the Winter Solstice quilt was perfect!
Time for the Longarm!
Sewing on the binding
Now, the hard part, waiting for Christmas Eve!
Merry Christmas Mr. Yesteryear Acres

Clean Sweep

Devon Rex Cats are unlike any other cat I have ever been around.  Devons are dog-like in their outgoing friendliness and devotion. They come when they are called, sit still when you bend over to pick them up, they never say no to affection and they LOVE to be with you no matter what you are doing.  No matter what...
Willow, I need to vacuum
Okay! I am going to vacuum right this minute!
Cats that like to vacuum?
That's a Devon for you!
Happy Clean Sweep Caturday!

Snow Much Fun!

It is finally looking like a Winter Wonderland here at Yesteryear Acres! So what does one do with the first snow fall of the new year? Play Snow Fetch of course!!!!
"It is time to RING in the New Year! Come on Mom!"
"Or maybe I will just steal the purple ring for myself..."
Ready! 1....2...3....
FETCH!
Wohoo! Good first catch Ernie McDoodle!
Uh oh! The battle of brothers...
Who will win... Strength (left) or Smarts (right)
The answer is... It's a tie!  Agnes says, "Awww come on guys! Let me have a turn!"
It's okay Agnes! You can come play with me!
"Yay! Let's pounce in the snow!"
"And then let's eat it!! Thanks Mom, today has been SNOW much fun!"
Yes it has my sweet Agnes! I can't wait for more fun tomorrow!
Always,
Amelia

A Perfectly Good Stick

Mr. Yesteryear Acres went out to the garden and harvested a few more stalks of our Brussels sprouts. Ernie was confused as to why we would bring such a large stick into the kitchen.
That is one big stick!!!
It isn't a stick Ernie... It is dinner!
Time for some Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Why do humans put a perfectly good stick into the oven?
I PAWSitively don't know!

What activities just makes their tails wag with happiness?

Iron Chef

I have a new title I have to live up to ... the title of Iron Chef! Mr. Yesteryear Acres surprised us with an extra large cast iron griddle for Christmas.  At first I thought it was something that only he would enjoy but it turns out that I love cooking outside on the griddle! All the mess is outside!  I have been wearing my winter coveralls and doing outdoor griddle cooking almost every night.  I am not quite worthy of the title of Iron Chef but I am definitely working on it!!!! A sampling of my creations so far...
Fresh Tortillas are so easy and FAST to cook on the griddle. I can make 8 tortillas in the same amount of time it takes to cook just one tortilla inside.
Potstickers and Cauliflower Rice.  Was delicious and FAST!!!!
Of course I had to try a Sunday morning brunch!
Griddle biscuits, hash browns and smoked sausage.  The eggs cooked so quickly I couldn't take a picture fast enough!
Fried Chicken Tenderloins, Texas Toast and Fresh Asparagus
Banana Blueberry Pancakes.
Just one griddle and everyone was fed at once!
This was the beginning stage of the best fried rice I have ever made in my life.  I couldn't even believe how authentically good it was!
A present from my daughter. Now I have a tray to carry everything outside!
I shall continue to earn my title!
Tonight's menu ...
Diced Butternut Squash with Caramelized Pumpkin Seeds, Pecans and Cranberries over Pasta.
Iron Chef, at your service.
