Goldendoodle Pumpkins

Yesterday's Double Doodle Pumpkin patch was so much fun that we thought we would try Goldendoodle Pumpkins.  I have to say - the Double Doodle puppies were better at the pumpkin pictures.  The goldendoodle puppies had other things on their minds...
Things started out well enough.....

As long as we were holding the puppies....we had picture perfection!

But the second we let go......."I wonder what this stem tastes like?"

"Who me?  I wasn't eating the pumpkin!"

"Hahahaha!  They will never know who nibbled on the pumpkin!"
"Pumpkins are boring.... Come on! Let's go do something else!"

"Like chase leaves!"
"Hey! What does your ear taste like?"

"BLECH!"
Copper the Double Doodle says,
"I guess it is up to me to make the pumpkin pose!"
Good ole Double Doodles!

Doodle Pumpkin Patch

Today my son went out to the garden and picked a few of his pumpkins. He called me outside to show off his orange beauties and by the time I got outside, he was already surrounded with expert doodle pumpkin pickers.
There is nothing like having help picking out just the perfect pumpkin

"I like these two!"

Pumpkins are fun to play with

We had a lot of doodle approval on this pumpkin

The pumpkins proved to be immensely interesting

And I was lucky to get a few really cute puppy pumpkin pictures

Mr. Blue Pawprints loves this pumpkin the most

Ms. Pink Pawprints likes the littlest pumpkin

"I wonder what this pumpkin tastes like?"

Pumpkin Picking is hard work!

But so worth it!

Pumpkin Perfect!

And Autumn Perfect too!

Flag Pole Planning

Mr. Yesteryear Acres and my son ordered a brand new gigantic flagpole.  The flagpole we have is pretty old and isn't nearly as tall as Mr. Yesteryear Acres would like.  He wants a super tall flagpole with a giant American flag proudly waving each and every day showing our patriotic pride for all to see. He finally got his wish and our new flagpole should be delivered soon.  Now of course comes the "where shall we put our new flagpole?" decision.  Silly me, I thought we would put it right where our existing flagpole is located. Boy was I wrong.  Evidently we must spend hours debating on just which square inch of grass best highlights the new flagpole placement.
Mr.Yesteryear Acres told me that I had to be the flagpole
This is my best impression

Evidently I am not a good flagpole so Mr. Yesteryear Acres had to show me how it is done.

Olive took very good notes.

See? This is how you become a proper flagpole

Got it! Flagpole 101 lesson complete

I decided that my son's height gave him the advantage on flagpole mimicry and I left the men to their flagpole placement planning.
After all, one can only "stand" so much fun in one afternoon.

Plain White T-Shirt

Early this morning Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I were soundly sleeping when our home phone rang.  We do not have a phone in our bedroom so we immediately jumped up and stumbled through the pitch blackness to run to the other room.  With our older daughter currently at sea, the sound of the phone ringing at that hour instantly causes concern. Who was calling? What was wrong? What emergency could there be? Well, there was no emergency. It was the high school's automated system calling us to let us know that today was picture day. Picture Day?!!! You mean the same picture day that we have written on the calendar?  You mean the same picture day that we were called about on Tuesday evening?  You mean the same picture day that we already know about?????? Oh my gosh!  I am soooo grateful for that call.  I mean how nice of them to call before our alarms went off.  How nice of them to call before the sun was up.  How nice of them to call to give my high school BOY hours and hours of time to get ready for picture day. My son notoriously wears the same thing..... steel-toed boots, blue jeans and a plain white t-shirt ......every.....single.....day. We often joke that if it weren't for the changing of the seasons in the background of our pictures, it would appear as though we took every picture of him on the exact same day.
This is what my son wears in the middle of winter walking on our frozen pond

This is what my son wears when his girlfriend comes over

This is what my son wears when we go out to the park

This is what my son wears when we stay at home

And this is what my son wears for our very special family portrait
I wonder......what will my son wear today for his school picture day? I am so glad he has so much time to prepare.  It can take hours to find just the right plain white t-shirt. I hope he has enough time!

Dear Nephew - You're Welcome

My sister texted me today feeling a bit overwhelmed.  She has a ton on her plate right now and so like any good older sister, I was quick to give her my unsolicited advice. I mean - what kind of big sister would I be if I didn't give her my unasked for opinion? My advice was simple - have your son help. My sister's son is 10 years old and an only child.  He is a much beloved and much adored member of the family.  He is a great kid and up until now, hasn't really been called upon to help out too much. My sister often jokes about how her son is glad that he does not live at Yesteryear Acres.  I do realize that here at Yesteryear Acres we work harder than most.  Our days start with the sun and end long after dark.  We work every day, holiday, rain or shine, cold or hot - we are working.  And our kids work just as hard as we do. As our kids were growing up, they did not receive an allowance. Working here is an expected part of living here.  Did they contribute to the laundry piles, dirty dishes, messy bathrooms and muddy floors??? Why yes they did!  So our philosophy is that we all make the mess together so we all clean the mess together. Our kids started helping out as soon as they could walk and they are still expected to help out.  There is no "vacation" here. Whenever my older daughter comes home for military leave - she knows that we will have boots waiting by the door for her.  Everyone pitches in. My younger daughter once said that she hated cleaning the toilets.  My response was, "Really? Wow!  That's surprising!  Because I LOVE cleaning the toilets......NOT!"  No one really LOVES housework but we do it. And you know what - my kids still LOVE being here.  They are hard-working, compassionate, thoughtful, helpful beings who love life and are grateful for all our blessings. So Dear Nephew, you are very welcome.  You can help your over-worked, over-tired, thoughtful, loving mom who does it all each and every day without asking you to help. You are going to be great at vacuuming. Your mom will appreciate it and even though you don't realize it right now......some day you will know that pitching in and doing your share makes for an enriched and happy and grateful life. Oh - and don't forget to bring down your laundry.
Love Aunt Renee
