That Adorable Voice

My older daughter was selected to leave the morale boost voicemail message for her Expeditionary Unit. The recorded message gives a brief update as to what is going on during their deployment and also gives other Marines a chance to send personal voice messages to their family members. When I called the number today and heard her adorable voice, it just made my whole day.  I could hear the smile in her voice as she let everyone know that her unit was safe.  I pictured that sweet face that I miss so dearly and it almost felt like she was right here in the room with us.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I were listening to the message and my daughter's beloved doggie Blossom heard her voice and ran over to listen. Her tail started wagging the second she heard my daughter's voice. It pretty much made our day! I am not saying I listened to it multiple times but.....there is a chance I have it memorized by now! Five months down...... five to go!

Now that was an excellent dinner!

Yesterday I wasn't feeling that well.  I woke up with a wicked headache and I couldn't shake it the entire day.  It made everything I did a struggle. Just as I was pondering what I would make for dinner, this is what I saw in the kitchen.
My son was whipping up something in the kitchen

"Are you making dinner?!?!!! :) :) :) :)"

Just a little Chicken Pasta with Caramelized Onions and Truffle Oil

It was DELICIOUS! He even did the dishes afterwards!  Thanks to his secret recipe....my headache disappeared and I was all better later that evening.  Gosh I love that boy!

"A new toy!"

"Hey Guys!  Look what I found!"

"I think it is too big to play fetch!"

"I can't pick this up"

"Me neither!"

"But I am quick with the stick!"

"Let's play Hide and Seek"

"Ha ha! You found me!"

"What about Freeze Tag?"

"I am still trying to pick up this ball!"

Let's Switch!

Today my son was faced with a list of things he really had no motivation to get done.  I looked at my own To-Do list and felt the same lack of motivation. So many things to do and no desire to start!  That is when my son had the brilliant idea of switching lists! I hadn't had to do many of the things on his list in quite some time and he has not had to do mine. My son said, "why don't we just switch lists?" and suddenly we were both eager to get started.  In no time at all he was vacuuming the house and I was outside weeding the flower garden. We were both really happy with our new job assignments. Guess who doesn't have to make dinner tonight??? Me!!!  Guess who doesn't have to wash all the dinner dishes?  Me again!!!! Guess who doesn't have to gather all the trash for trash day tomorrow? You got it - Me!!!!  My son is just as happy with all the jobs he doesn't have to do.  Switching jobs was brilliant!  Sometimes you just need a break from the same ole same ole.  Looks like it is time for me to pick up sticks. I think I will have a good workout today!

A Good Day was had by All

Today was just one of those days where everyone had an awesome day.  The sun was shining, the spring air felt wonderful and good things happened all day long.  Today was Birdie's puppy visit day so from early this morning until dinner time we had puppy families here playing with the puppies.  The puppies just had the very best day ever.  They got snuggled and hugged and loved all day long.  They also had several good chase games with kids which always brings smiles to both the puppies and the kids. Tonight the puppies will be sleeping like babies.  They are tuckered out!  Mr. Yesteryear Acres and my son were gone for most of the day as my son had a very important scholarship interview from 11am-4pm scheduled for today. I am happy to report, that the interview went really well and tonight he was called and offered the scholarship! We are super proud of him and he is super proud of himself as well!  That is a job well done and makes my son even more reassured that the Agricultural Systems Management program is exactly where he should be. Tonight Mr. Yesteryear Acres made his special hamburgers to celebrate and later tonight we will top the evening off with ice cream sundaes. I think it goes without saying that today at Yesteryear Acres, a good day was had by all!!!!

Does this mean winter is officially over?

Mr. Yesteryear Acres and my son began the first step in getting things ready for the summer.  The hay field needs its annual fertilizer treatment so right after school today, the two were off to the mill to load up.

This sight always makes my son smile.

Loading up!

I believe this is when my son called me and asked, "Who wants to unload? " There is a good chance that I missed this part....Hey - someone has to fold the laundry!
See?  He didn't need me!!! Unloaded and now we are ready for the hay field!
Does this mean that winter is officially over? Bring on the Garden Season!!!!!!

Decision Made

After months of being torn between choosing The United States Naval Academy or the Agricultural Systems Management Program at The Ohio State University, my son will be.........A BUCKEYE!  My son will be following his passion in life and pursuing an Agricultural degree at OSU.  For the past few months, we have talked of nothing else.  It was hard to make this huge decision and I am so proud of him for knowing what he loves most in life and for pursuing that dream.  Ever since he could walk, my son has loved farming and animals and agriculture.  It is really what makes my son who he is.  When we moved to Yesteryear Acres, his favorite thing of all, wasn't our house, but our land.  Feeding the cows was his absolute favorite moment of every day.
He is still that same boy - but all grown up. A few weeks ago, my son's teacher asked him to close his eyes and imagine a scene that brings him complete peace and happiness.  The second he closed his eyes, my son pictured a field of corn with the cornstalks blowing in the wind.  When he told me that, I said, "See? THAT is what you love!" If you do what you LOVE you will never consider your work to be "work" ... what you do will be what you love! I am so happy for so many reasons.  Most importantly, I am happy for my son and his future and that he will be doing what he loves.  BUT - I am also happy because he is not leaving home, and I can see him, and he will be around, and I won't have to miss him terribly.  My son will remain part of the Yesteryear Acres business and will still be involved with our Doodle Doggies and Doodle Puppies and all the joys and happinesses in our life here at Yesteryear Acres. I am one PROUD and HAPPY mama!!!!!! We have a farmer in the house! :)

Puppy Video

My son took an adorable video of the puppies playing outside today so I thought I would attempt to post it!  Our Double Doodle Blue was teaching the puppies how to play fetch and Olive Doodle was right there to help as well.
The puppies had a GOOD TIME!  Nothing beats playing with a few older doodle buddies!
It was the perfect afternoon for Doodle fun!

I think the puppies got the hang of it!!!!!
Tail Wagging Good times!

Does that count as unpacking?

So my list of things to get done is very long.  I have to make up for all the time I have been gone.  I have a stack of mail that is teetering over.  I have laundry that needs washed.  I have puppies to take care of.  I have all my normal work to do on top of making up for lost time. I had big plans to get ALL of that done today. Well.... I failed.  It is now 8:39 at night and I don't have it done.  Since it was pouring down buckets of rain today, I did get my raincoat out of my suitcase.  I suppose that is sort of like unpacking right?  I mean the raincoat WAS packed and now my raincoat is unpacked. It is hanging up, perfectly put away. Definitely unpacked. The fact that my swimsuits, dresses, shoes, socks, shirts, shorts and everything else have now exploded out of the suitcase and are kind of barely contained within the walls of the suitcase is irrelevant.  I unpacked today.  Let's just call this a success.  Maybe tomorrow I will unpack a pair of shoes! Man I will really be making progress now!!!!!!
