Junctober

Why Hello Junctober! You know - Junctober? The little known month that seems to be the month of October but feels like June.  Junctober occurs once all your winter clothes have come out of storage and all your summer clothes are put away.  Junctober occurs after all the airconditioners have been removed and stored up in the attic.  Junctober occurs when the calendar says it is time for Trick or Treat but instead of candy, the kids ask for popsicles. Junctober occurs when Mr. Yesteryear Acres has to mow........the sledding hill.
This is what Junctober looks like at Yesteryear Acres
Junctober is when it feels like the hillside should be carpeted in blossoms.....

But instead it is carpeted in leaves

Junctober is when the cornfield clearly says "I AM READY FOR HARVEST"
yet the grass says "LOOK IT IS SUMMER!"

Junctober is when the corn is dry but the grass is vibrant green

Junctober looks like this - but you need to apply sunscreen before going out

Junctober is when the picnic area looks like summer

But you feel like you need to wear a swimsuit so you won't roast at the cookout

Junctober is when you realize the swimming ladder has already been stored for the winter......so even though you want to swim......swimming season is over

Junctober looks like this but

The horses still have a springlike pasture to graze

OH Junctober - you can't fool us!  Mr. Yesteryear Acres has the wood stacked and ready for when it becomes Janvember!

WALDO!!!!!!!!!

My daughter has been at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia since early July.  She is training at TBS and she will be there at least through the end of January. The training at TBS is very difficult.  It is a full onslaught of physical and mental exhaustive training.  I don't get to hear from her very often as she has precious little free time.  When I do get to talk to her - I stop EVERYTHING and spend every second being grateful for the time we do have. When she was at the Naval Academy, parents often would post pictures of parades and other events, and I would spend hours combing through the many photos in the hopes of finding "My Waldo".  It is a pastime that most Naval Academy parents share.  We can't be there with our children so we derive our pleasure from a tiny little glimpse of our loved one in a group photo.  I know that some of my Marine Mom friends have been lucky enough to find their Waldo in the TBS Marine Corps photos but so far, I have not seen her.....
Until today! I FOUND MY WALDO!
I never knew a picture of the back of her head could bring me such joy.
My Waldo.  I love her so!

Sibling Trip

This evening I listened to my son as he talked on the phone with his older sister.  He has decided that he is going to visit her at college for an entire weekend.  My son has never seen her campus yet as he has had sport and school commitments that interfered with visiting.  His cross country schedule is coming to a close and so on his very first weekend off he will be driving all by himself to go visit his sister. All by himself.  Alone.  On a long drive. Without me.  Or anyone else.  To visit a college campus. ACK!  How can he be old enough to do this already?! I will be a nervous wreck until he arrives safely.  That is a long drive! Despite my worry, I am super excited for the two of them.  My daughter is so excited that her brother is coming.  They have already made plans to go to two hockey games and a football game.  She is going to show him all around campus and give him the full tour.  My son is so excited for......the food.  Yes that is right. He wants the college food.  He can't wait to go to the buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  ALL YOU CAN EAT!  I am fairly certain that my daughter's college dining staff will have to go grocery shopping after my son leaves.  He is a growing boy after all.  The weekend should be a great time for the both of them.  I can't wait to hear all about it!

Pumpkin Puppy Picture Perfection

The weather today could not have been any more perfect for taking puppy pictures.  The sun was out, the blue sky was brilliant and our hillside is the most lovely vibrant shade of gold. Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I were surrounded by beauty all day long.  The puppies loved the weather too.  Here are this week's adorable puppy pictures straight from the pumpkin patch!
Can I carve this one?

I want this pumpkin!

Can you  help us pick our pumpkin up?

Try using the pumpkin handle!

Oh I like this pumpkin pillow the best!

Mr. Yesteryear Acres says....All these pumpkins make him want some
Pumpkin Pie!

I say - Pumpkins are perfect for snuggling

And introducing....our newest little apricot and caramel Double Doodle Babies

So Sweet!

Denial Never Works

One thing I know is that no matter how much you are in denial....reality ALWAYS wins.  I have been vainly clinging on to the last remains of warm weather days.  Did the fact we had to turn on our furnace give me some sort of clue that cold weather is here to stay? Of course not.  Did the fact I have to put on my robe as soon as I wake up in order to stay warm give me a clue? Nope.  Did the fact that Yesteryear Acres is covered in falling leaves and we have quite a few bare trees on our hillside give me a clue? Nope. Did the fact that all week long I have been searching for something to wear only to be confronted by drawers full of short-sleeved T-shirts give me the clue that denying the cold weather would not in fact bring warm weather days back.  Well......actually yes.  As the dreary cold days have continued, I finally came to the realization that I wanted long sleeves.  I wanted my long sleeved pajamas, my long sleeved turtlenecks and my long sleeve sweaters and sweatshirts.  I was cold!  The summer pajamas just weren't cutting it any longer.  My layered T-shirt look was not helping keep me warm. And so yesterday I spent several hours packing away all my summer things.  Goodbye swimsuits.  Goodbye shorts.  Goodbye T-shirts, sundresses, capris, sandals and coverups.  I shall miss you ever so much!  Sniff sniff.  I think a tear escaped as the last of my sundresses were neatly packed away.  My closet and drawers are now all full of winter gear.  I have my scarves and gloves and coats and sweaters all ready for action. And in case you were wondering - for all of you that live near Yesteryear Acres - you can personally thank me for tomorrow's forecast. Now that all my summer gear is gone.....the forecast for tomorrow.....
77* and sunny
You are welcome.

The Magic of Cookies

Today's dreary rainy kind of morning was just perfect for having a delicious cup of coffee with a side of Molasses Oatmeal cookies. Mmmmmm.  The deep rich flavor of coffee coupled with the chewy molasses ginger oatmeal cookie is a combo flavor of heavenly deliciousness. I told Mr. Yesteryear Acres that I felt guilty eating a cookie so early in the morning and he told me 2 important things
1) The cookies will never be as good tomorrow as they are today - so I should definitely enjoy one of my awesome cookies
and
2) He said that I look amazing so I should definitely enjoy one of my awesome cookies.
That Mr. Yesteryear Acres.  He always knows just what to say.  My son brought some of the cookies with him to his cross-country meet.  Today was the big District meet and........my son's team qualified for Regionals!  That is big exciting news.  I am sure my son is thinking he is going to Regionals because all summer long, he ran.  He ran in hot weather.  He ran in rainy weather.  When Cross Country season started he ran even harder.  He ran on vacation. I am SURE he thinks his dedication to the sport is the reason he qualified for Regionals but we all know the real reason..........................
My Molasses Oatmeal Cookies!!!!!!!
Here is the recipe if you want to whip up a batch or two (or nine) of your own!

MOLASSES OATMEAL COOKIES

3/4 cup Margarine
1 Egg
1/4 Cup Molasses
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 tsp Ginger
1/2 tsp Cloves
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Tsp Baking Soda
1 1/2 Cups Flour
3/4 cup Rolled Oats
Bake at *375 for 8-10 minutes. If you remove the cookies right after they puff up and then fall - they will stay moist and chewy. If you bake them too long - they will be crisp but not chewy.  We love them chewy. SO GOOD!
AND you might want to double or triple the recipe - these cookies disappear quickly!!! Mmmmm.  So good.  Great with a cup of coffee too!

The Human Mixer

This afternoon I decided to make a batch of my son's favorite cookies.  He has a cross country meet tomorrow so I thought he might like to bring some fresh baked cookies with him.  He loves my Molasses Oatmeal Cookies. In fact he loves them so much that one batch is never enough.  I have to at least double the recipe if I would like the cookies to last more than 24 hours.  If I triple the recipe - the cookies might last a whole 2 days.  I have handwritten notes on my original recipe for 2x and 3x batches so I can whip up the cookies with no delays. So I thought - cross country meet - lots of hungry runners - triple batch it is!  First up - 2 1/2 cups of molasses.  Wow. That is really a lot of molasses.  That is an entire jar and then some.  Wow. I am all out of molasses. I better write that down on my grocery list.  Next 3 Eggs.  Easy enough. Next.......OH MY GOODNESS! Who does NOT have on their glasses?  ME!  Who NEEDS to wear reading glasses? ME! Who put WAY WAY WAY too much molasses in the recipe?  Yes, again that would be me.  I now have a mixing bowl full of eggs and molasses. I can't very well throw that out so......time for recalculations...WITH GLASSES.  Looks like I will be making NINE TIMES the recipe amount! Yes. NINE.  As in I almost used TEN POUNDS OF FLOUR. My mixer bowl couldn't hold the liquid ingredients.  I had to split that between 2 mixer bowls and then when it was time to add the 14 cups of flour and 8 cups of oats...there was NO ROOM!  I had to get out one of my huge stockpots and call Mr. Yesteryear Acres to the rescue.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres is now, "The Human Mixer".  That is the only way to get my triple triple batch of Molasses Oatmeal cookies mixed!
The empty bowls in this picture are 5 Quart Mixing bowls, which obviously are too small for MY cookies.
We like to make our cookie dough in a 7 gallon stockpot!
Guess my son will definitely have enough cookies for tomorrow!!!!
Cookies anyone?

This Just Got Real

Today I booked my younger daughter's airline tickets to......EUROPE! She will be studying abroad all of Spring Semester and I won't see her for SIX months. We are both filled with excitement and anticipation for all her amazing adventures that are right around the corner and at the same time we are equally filled with sadness as we will miss each other SO much.  Neither one of us knows how we will make it being apart that long!  I know we will do it - but the thought of it is a bit overwhelmingly sad right now.  When I emailed my daughter a copy of the tickets she called me right away.  She was happy and sad.  Me too. We both said, "This just got real!" The happy part is really happy though.  My daughter's University has a sister University in Europe.  My daughter pays the same tuition as if she were spending the semester in-state but instead of studying Art 188 at her University here - she gets to study Art 188 in Europe.  She gets to take Field trips with her professor to Barcelona and to the Louvre in Paris. She will get to see all the masterpieces first hand. Her Rise and Fall of Hitler class will take her to Germany and Poland.  Her Economics and Sustainability class will take her to Norway and Sweden. Her Political Science class will be taught by an Ambassador to the United Nations.  All her classes will have so much more meaning, so much more depth, so much more excitement.  It is really an opportunity of a lifetime.  And so...the airline tickets are booked.  This Just Got Real!

Autumn at Yesteryear Acres

The weather was just BEAUTIFUL today.  It was the kind of Autumn day I just dream about.  Instead of letting the day pass us by, Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I decided to enjoy all the beauty Fall has to offer.
Mr. Yesteryear Acres - very happy for our afternoon together

Most of the trees are past their peak but.....

Still a beautiful sight!

The garden season is officially over. We will have to get out to the garden and pull up all the tomato stakes......But not today!

Our hillside is always alive with color

We still have Fall Flowers in Bloom!

My daughter's pumpkin is ready for the end of the month

The golden colored woods at Yesteryear Acres

You can always find a hiking buddy here!

Major contest as to who can find the best Fall Leaf!

The view out our back door

And more Fall flowers in bloom!!!

Contest winner! She was so proud to have found a huge leaf!
Happy Autumn Day!

Well at least the carpet is clean!

When I came home yesterday I thought the kitchen smelled a little.....um......dog like. I mean that is certainly a reasonable smell given that we have doodle puppies and doodle doggies in our kitchen ALL the time.  I told Mr. Yesteryear Acres that the kitchen didn't smell all that wonderful and of course he didn't notice.  I mean I WAS gone and no one was baking delicious goodies in the oven so there was a definite lapse of homebaked goodness coming from the kitchen and I could tell immediately.  This morning I figured out where the smell was coming from.  Our carpet! Yes - we have CARPET of all things in our kitchen.  We have been trying for years to remove the carpet and put down hardwood floors but we just haven't had a long enough break to make it a reasonable project.  So the carpet still remains.  It is ugly carpet too!  I can't wait for the day I say my fond goodbyes to my ugly kitchen carpet. I let Mr. Yesteryear Acres know that we need to clean the carpet this weekend and he agreed.  Well I guess the mysterious workings of electronic gadget gizmos thought differently. This afternoon as I was answering emails I heard Mr. Yesteryear Acres yell from the kitchen.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres is not one to yell over mundane matters so I ran to the kitchen to see what was wrong. Our dishwasher was literally pouring out GALLONS of water. Water was pouring from the bottom, the sides, EVERYWHERE.  It looked like a sinking ship!  Somehow the sensor that tells the dishwasher when it is full of water stopped working and water was gushing everywhere. So guess what I did today?  Yes, I got the good ole shop vacuum out and vacuumed up gallons of water while Mr. Yesteryear Acres repaired the dishwasher. We spent all afternoon getting everything cleaned up. Despite the fact this was not anywhere on either of our schedules........well....at least the carpet is clean! My kitchen smells better already!

What a Sweet Face to Come Home To

I am back!  Back home at Yesteryear Acres! Back home to my sweet Mr. Yesteryear Acres. Back home to my doodle doggies and doodle puppies.  Back home to my bed! Oh I can't wait to sleep in my own bed tonight!  I am SO tired.  My son is really tired too.  Our red-eye flight was delayed and we spent FOREVER on the runway last night.  We had to fly to LAX and they closed down to just ONE runway so - yes - we were there forever before we were cleared for take off.  Today has seemed to crawl by and I could have used a few toothpicks to keep my eyes open.  I am already dreaming about my pajamas!  But first......It's MONDAY! So of course - here are this week's puppy pictures...
I DEFINITELY think the puppies were laughing at how tired I was.
I clearly said, "Okay puppies - Everyone look at the camera!"
This chocolate girl wanted to join me for a nap!

Then I said, "Okay puppies - Everyone Look Left!"
Yep.  Another chocolate girl ready for a nap!
This is as close as I ever got to success with all the puppies looking the same direction.
BUT Individually.....They were all perfect!

Awwww so cute!

What a sweet face to come home to!

Happy Monday!

Aeronautical Day!!!

Well yesterday was definitely nautical day so today will be aeronautical day!!!  We are spending the entire day at the Marine Corps Air Show at Miramar. It is going to be an AWESOME day. We will have Marine Corps demonstrations, airplanes, jets, helicopters, static displays, tanks, boats, heavy equipment - you name it!!!!! The grand finale is The Blue Angels Show which we are so looking forward to! We were to have seen them during my daughter's Commissioning from the Naval Academy but the Blue Angels were cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Today we finally get to see them! My son and I are both so excited! MCAS Miramar Air Show - here we come!

Nautical Day

Today we are off to see the Navy Ships! We have a busy day ahead full of adventures. We will be seeing all the ships on 32nd street and then will be touring the USS Midway which was at the top of our list of things to do. I am so excited to walk aboard an aircraft carrier!  We are also touring a Russian Submarine, US Submarine, HMS Surprise and a number of other ships. This evening we will be taking a cruise around San Diego Harbor so I guess today is Nautical Day! The skies are already a brilliant blue and I am thinking I might be adding to my already very bright red colored skin hue.  Looks like yesterday's bicycle trip turned me a lovely shade of red. Of course my son is completely tan - not burnt at all.  Did he wear sunscreen? Of course not! Did I? I wore 50+ sunscreen. Isn't that just the way! Sunscreen. Check.  Sunglasses. Check. Ready for Nautical day! CHECK!

Bike Warriors!

My son and I really got the most of our day today! The sun was shining and a cool breeze was blowing and the day could not be more beautiful.  We had lots of options on our list -San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Wild Animal Safari Park - but we decided that we would spend the day riding bikes together.  There is a terrific bike path here and the views are just incredible.  We rented our "old school" bikes - you know the kind - no hand brakes, one gear, push your bike pedals backwards to stop AND of course the requisite bike basket!  I got a pink bike with the basket and it definitely made me feel like I was in grade school again. It actually took me a while to get the hang of stopping. I kept gripping the handlebars which of course did not slow me down at all. Once we got going - it was fantastic! The bike path was wide enough for my son and I to ride side-by-side and there was absolutely no car traffic on the path.  It was great.  We followed the seashore for miles and miles.  Once we got to the most southwesterly city in the United States, my son decided we should bike to Mexico.  So we did. Yes - I biked to Mexico. I never thought I would say that one! On our bike ride back, we stopped for a picnic lunch. We had our picnic on a long fishing pier and watched the surfers while we ate our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Best lunch ever.  And who treated us to the bike rentals for the day? My son. It will definitely be a day I will never forget. We are Bike Warriors!!!!

We Don't Have This at Home!

This morning my son and I were up and out the door by 6:45am and started our morning exercise. The sky was still a lovely shade of pink as we headed towards the beach and the ocean was simply beautiful. My son took off on his run while I walked along the shore admiring the scenery and enjoying the sounds of the waves crashing. There were so many people out exercising. It was a great sight to see. I don't think I have ever been surrounded by so many people at that hour with smiles on their faces as they worked out.  I mean you  can't help but smile as you are presented with such a beautiful setting!!!  The beach in Coronado is just gorgeous.  This morning my son and I saw
Navy SEALs working out
Seashells and Sand dollars on the beach
Sea Lions
Dolphins playing in the surf
Fighter Jets flying overhead
Navy Ships heading out to sea
Navy Helicopters
Navy People from the Amphibious Base running in their perspective companies
and
Lots of doggies having fun playing fetch in the surf.  We even met a couple of labradoodle doggies and their owners. My son wished his doodle doggie was with him to enjoy the seaside happiness of our morning.  We could have stayed there all day long.  It was just perfect.

Heroes to us All

My son and I have been treated to an experience of a lifetime.  We were invited to Coronado, California to tour the Navy SEAL Base Compound. We arrived in San Diego yesterday and left our hotel early this morning and have had a whirlwind of a day. To actually witness the SEALs in training, to walk the grounds where they walk, to be a part of that experience is just indescribable. We have been in complete awe all day long.  I have to say that although my son and I are both equally in awe and have equal amounts of complete reverence, my son's reaction to everything has been, "I can't wait to do something like that!" while my reaction is "I can definitely wait until he does something like that!"  The experiences the SEALs undergo during training and beyond defies the normal limits of human endurance. "The Only Easy Day was Yesterday" can be seen everywhere.  Once again, I give my deepest thanks and gratitude for all who serve. You are heroes to us all.

Paul Bunyan

Well it is official - tomato season has come to a close.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres picked 2 more bushels of tomatoes from the garden last night and I believe that may just be the end of the tomato picking. This morning we woke up to frost on the ground as the temperature was a chilly 31*.  Looks like Mr. Yesteryear Acres is going to have to fire up the good ole furnace.  We have a wood burning furnace and Mr. Yesteryear Acres has several cords of wood - split, stacked and ready for action. Some people spend their free time relaxing, Mr. Yesteryear Acres spends it splitting wood.  He has an impressive log pile! I have to admit, I like waiting until November before we turn on the furnace BUT......I did have a trail of doodle doggies following me this morning, just waiting for me to sit down so they could  crawl up and snuggle on my robe.  It IS a very soft robe and I DO love my doodle doggies but I am thinking we may have to break down and get the furnace going.  Otherwise I may be forced to sit in my robe
All
Day
Long
Well we definitely all know that is never going to happen....looks like Paul Bunyan will be busy today!

Monday "awwww" update

Mr. Yesteryear Acres arrived home last night and he was delighted to be the one greeted  by all the happy doodle doggies.  They REALLY missed him and he loved all the tail-wagging attention.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres had a terrific visit with our daughter. Nothing like a father/daughter weekend to make everything right in the world. Of course first thing on the list as soon as Mr. Yesteryear Acres returned was Puppy Pictures!
The Puppies' eyes are now open so they look even more adorable!

They are just a snuggle bunch of cuteness!

They are still so tiny but growing bigger every day

Everybody loves Caramel!

Everybody loves chocolate!

I know this one had to make you say, "Awwwwww!'
Happy Monday!

I am not jealous

Despite the tumultuous traffic situation, Mr. Yesteryear Acres arrived safe and sound and is now happily spending time with our daughter. I am not at all jealous that in all the times I visited our daughter, she has had military obligations that prevented us from being together. I am not at all jealous that she got to eat dinner with Mr. Yesteryear Acres and spend the whole night talking and laughing with Mr. Yesteryear Acres. I am not at all jealous that this morning they got to have breakfast together. I am not at all jealous that they are going to the MCX to go shopping together. No way.  I am not jealous at all.  I love the fact that when I went to Quantico, I spent hours and hours and hours alone in the hotel just wishing I could see her.  I love the fact that I had to spend nights alone in the hotel with a broken TV with no sound and no daughter.  There is NO way I am jealous that they have a perfectly lovely hotel room with a working stove and working TV and have the whole weekend to leisurely enjoy each other's company. Me jealous? NO WAY! Okay MAYBE I am just a TAD jealous.  But even if I am ever so SLIGHTLY green with envy, I hope they have the bestest of bestest times and enjoy every single second together.  No one deserves it more!

What? There is Traffic???!!

Oh poor poor Mr. Yesteryear Acres.  Let's all get out a box of tissues right now and suffer along with him.  Yesterday Mr. Yesteryear Acres made the long drive to Virginia.  The same drive I make ALL THE TIME.  The same drive I have told him about ALL THE TIME.  The same drive I have said has horrendous traffic ALL THE TIME. Every time I have complained to Mr. Yesteryear Acres about how much I hate driving and how bad the traffic is - I get some sort of sunshiney happy optimistic glass is always half full answer like, "Oh it can't be that bad.  Just listen to the radio and enjoy the scenery. You'll be there soon."  Well wouldn't  you know it.......Mr. Yesteryear Acres got stuck in traffic yesterday!  EGAD!  TRAFFIC! In Washington D.C.?!!!!  WHO KNEW!?! I got call after call after call with him describing the horror of the traffic.  "WE AREN'T MOVING!" or "I HAVE ONLY MOVED TWO MILES IN THE PAST 30 MINUTES!" or "HOW CAN THERE BE THIS MANY PEOPLE ON THE ROAD!?" or "WHY DO WE DO THIS?"  My favorite one is, "Did you KNOW the traffic was this bad?!"  Ummmmm yes Mr. Yesteryear Acres I DID know.  Don't worry.  I was VERY sympathetic. I felt SO bad for poor Mr. Yesteryear Acres.  I gave him the very best advice I could come up with.....
"Oh it can't be that bad.  Just listen to the radio and enjoy the scenery!  You'll be there soon!"
Happy Travels Mr. Yesteryear Acres!  I bet you just love that scenery!

Love from Home

My older daughter has really been missing Mr. Yesteryear Acres.  I have been lucky enough to visit her several times since she left for the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, but Mr. Yesteryear Acres has not seen her since the day she drove down our driveway earlier this summer. I can still feel the sadness of that moment and I know Mr. Yesteryear Acres does too. Early this morning, I helped Mr. Yesteryear Acres load up the puppy mobile and I waved goodbye as he drove down the driveway.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres is the puppy delivery guy for the day! He is making the long drive and will be lucky enough to see our daughter later this evening. I am happy for him and I am happy for my daughter.  She definitely needs some Daddy time.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres is on the way with  a cooler full of home-cooked meals and goodness for her.  I have been cooking and baking away all week to make sure she would be well-supplied with love from home. Tonight's meal will be Thai Peanut Chicken, brown/white rice and fresh green beans and of course a loaf of fresh baked Honey Oatmeal Flax bread.  I had to wait until midnight last night until the bread was cool enough to wrap up for the trip.  I also made a batch of fudge brownies with fudge frosting.  My poor son looked so sad last night when I pulled them out of the oven.  I had to tell them they were for his sister and watch his happy face instantly turn to sorrow.  No worries though!  I have a red velvet cake baking in the oven right now and I am fairly sure that smile will be right back where it belongs. Tonight there will be smiles all around for everyone.  Happy Puppy Smiles, Happy Puppy Family Smiles and Happy Yesteryear Acres Family smiles too! It is just one big happy smiling day for all!

One More Time

Mr. Yesteryear Acres cannot stay out of the garden. It is OCTOBER and yes, our garden still is producing veggies! This is without a doubt the latest we have ever harvested huge amounts of vegetables with no end in sight.  If we don't get a frost here, I believe we will still be picking veggies at Christmas!  We have so many tomatoes. I have already made enough sun-dried tomatoes to fill an entire paper grocery sack!  I have made 107 quarts of tomato puree!  I have made 24 pints of spaghetti sauce. I have made so many batches of fresh tomato this and fresh tomato that - my kitchen is permanently red.  So what does Mr. Yesteryear Acres bring into the house this morning............
Yep!  MORE TOMATOES!!!!!! I have another couple of bushels of tomatoes to process.  STOP THE TOMATO MADNESS!!!!!! I don't think I have ever actually WISHED for a frost but.........I will be peeling tomatoes all day long for yet another batch of sauce......and maybe, just maybe, I have enough tomatoes now. Is it sweater weather yet? Guess I will go do something really crazy and.....GO PEEL TOMATOES.  AGAIN!

The little things count the most

After Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I woke up we
Let the dogs out
Let the dogs in
Let the puppies out
Let the puppies in
Cleaned up the morning puppy mess
Started the puppy laundry
Fed the Doggies
Fed the Puppies
Watered the Doggies
Watered the Puppies
Let the Dogs out
Let the Dogs in
Let the Puppies out
Let the puppies in
Cleaned the doggies food dishes
Cleaned the puppy food dishes
THEN
WE
WENT TO THE DOCK for our coffee date!!!!  We actually made it! It was heavenly.  We talked about our plans for the week. We talked about the projects we need to get done. We talked about the rest of the year and what we hope to accomplish. We talked about next summer and what huge project we should tackle.  And then.....we talked about how lucky we are. How grateful we are.  How happy we are.  How blessed we are.  And then we just sat and we were both filled with thoughts of how much we love being together and how much we love our life and how very much we appreciate each other.  Some times the little things, like having a coffee date by the pond, aren't really that little.  Most of the time - it is all the little things that count the most. The little moments are what life is really made of.  They are what make life sparkle and shine.  Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I spent the rest of the day working as usual - but the smiles from our morning sitting by our pond, enjoying our cup of coffee together - stayed with us all day long. As always.......Enjoy the Little Things!

Enjoy the Little Things

Today as I was making my October calendar I realized there are only TWO more monthly calendars to make this year! WHAT!?!!! TWO?!!!  How can that be?! I feel like it was JUST summertime yesterday! I know I said I love Autumn so obviously I KNOW it is Autumn but seeing just 2 more monthly calendars left for this year shocked me.  How did the time fly by so quickly?  Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I have been so busy lately, sadly we really haven't stopped or slowed down at all since May.  Summer was filled with home improvement projects so that we didn't get to do some of the little things we had wanted to do.  We didn't sit and have morning coffee on our dock.  I mean how simple is that?  All we have to do is walk to the pond with our coffee and sit.  Our big project list of things to do is so long, we just didn't make the time for our coffee on the dock date. We didn't take the morning off to watch a movie.  That was on our list.  I was going to do that on my birthday - take one morning off and stay in my pajamas and watch an entire movie with Mr. Yesteryear Acres.  Nope. Didn't do that one either.  We have a lot of other little things on our list that didn't get done. I mean we did get a TON of really important projects crossed off our list so we feel super happy about that but I think we are going to need to start some of the other little things.  Take a walk and enjoy the colors of Autumn.  Sit and watch the stars. Have a cookout by the pond.  These are things we usually take for granted and do frequently but it has been a long time since we did any of our little things.  I am going to have to get out an INK pen, with permanent ink, and write - Enjoy the Little Things on our October calendar. I think tomorrow Mr. Yesteryear Acres and I will just have to walk right to our dock and SIT and enjoy the peacefulness of the early morning. Now that is a "To-Do" I will look forward to!  I think Mr. Yesteryear Acres will too.

Happy October 1st!

Mr. Yesteryear Acres totally won this month's challenge as to who will wish the other "Happy October 1st".  He usually does.  We play the game every month and have been doing so since the day we met.  Let's see this is the year 2012 minus the year we met which was 1984 equals 28 years, times 12 months a year = 336 months plus 3 more months since we met in July = 339.  Yes we have played who will win the first to wish the other Happy First of the Month 339 times.  We never miss a month.  I believe out of the 339 times we have played - Mr. Yesteryear Acres has won at least 275 times.  The few times I win, it is by staying up past midnight and shaking Mr. Yesteryear Acres awake on the couch yelling, HAPPY "____" FIRST!  He loves when I win that way! Mr. Yesteryear Acres wins by wishing me "Happy "____" First! by giving me a freshly made cup of coffee in the morning and a kiss.  I think his way is better.  Maybe that is why I let him win but let's not tell Mr. Yesteryear Acres that.
Here are your Happy October First Puppy Pictures!  That way we all win!
