Planting time
Now that we are nearing the end of May, it is time to get busy on our gardening! We have a huge garden here at Yesteryear Acres. We plant tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, cucumbers, leeks, potatoes, sweet corn, peppers, zucchini, beets, peas, carrots, pumpkins, along with other yummy veggies. We usually have about 5 acres planted by the time we are done. The sweet corn takes up most of the garden space but I have to say my affinity for tomatoes also uses up quite a bit of space. We usually plant around 125-150 tomato plants and then have an additional dozen or so cherry tomato plants. I really love tomatoes! In the fall, I usually can 150 quarts of tomatoes just to get me through the winter. A tomato a day ....... or at least that should be the saying! Mr. Yesteryear Acres has already started planting some of the veggies and this weekend looks to be a garden planting weekend. We freeze and/or can all our own veggies, so we have to get busy. The freezers and shelves are getting bare! Planting time!
